Rep. Lopez named 2026 Legislative Champion by the Indiana Technology & Innovation Association
STATEHOUSE (Aug. 27, 2026) – On Thursday, State Rep. Danny Lopez (R-Carmel) was recognized by the Indiana Technology & Innovation Association with the 2026 Legislative Champion Award at their annual statewide summit in Fishers.
The ITIA said Lopez was named its 2026 legislative champion for his ongoing efforts expand access to capital for Hoosier entrepreneurs, increase wages across the industry and skill up Indiana’s tech talent pipeline, and keep Indiana the country’s best state to start, grow, and scale a business.
"Businesses of every size in every industry are leveraging technology to grow, and Indiana is now competing globally for investment that ensures those innovations mean better jobs at higher wages in every corner of the state,” Lopez said. "Indiana seeded this work two decades ago under Gov. Daniels and it exploded under Gov. Holcomb’s leadership, but it is the hard work of the ITIA, its staff, and its members that is making sure those gains are sustained into the future. I'm honored to receive this recognition from ITIA and am grateful for their partnership in advancing Indiana's innovation economy."
During the 2026 legislative session, Lopez championed policies to grow opportunity for Hoosiers by bringing new capital investment to communities, expanding investment in Indiana businesses and emerging industries, and strengthening workforce development through Ivy Tech. Lopez said new Redevelopment Tax Credits will spark statewide investment and inject much-needed capital, specifically for smaller communities. His legislation to establish the Small Town Opportunity Tax Credit and drive $50 million in new investments for projects of regional significance were combined into House Enrolled Act 1406 and will help continue Indiana’s momentum for capital investment and higher wage job growth.

During the 2026 session, he was instrumental in passing legislation that expanded access to the Venture Capital Investment Tax Credit, ensuring more Hoosier companies and funds are eligible for the credit," said Jennifer Hallowell, ITIA Executive Director. Lopez has also been a champion of continued robust investment into the 21st Century Research & Technology Fund, which supports startup investment into Indiana companies along with programs and funding for entrepreneurial support initiatives and grants that provide greater STEM educational opportunities for Hoosier students. Lopez was named Champion Freshman Legislator by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce in 2025 for his support of pro-economy, pro-jobs legislation during that year’s legislative session. In his first term, his other legislative efforts have included boosting economic development, reforming Indiana’s courts, constraining the growth of Medicaid, supporting Hoosier youth in the foster care system, and strengthening public safety in Hamilton County.
